Animal and Human Pain Salve

This is Lacey

She is our beautiful 6 year old Shih Tzu, we have raised from a baby and has been a wonderful bouncy joy to live with, everyday she has made our life better, she is such a good little girl.
Sadly we were told one of our dogs in our family has cancer and wasn't expected to live more than 2 weeks. Well although she is very frail now, she doesn't seem to be in severe pain and has outlived the 2 weeks now. I have made her a pain salve that I apply to her though just to help. It seems to help swelling and her appetite goes up and down. They gave us steroids to use and we tried them for a few days but decided to stop because they seem to cause problems. I have also made her dog biscuits that she likes. Trying to make her life more happy even if it has been shortened by rotten cancer cells. If anyone has any other things they have used please share. This is our little girl, we love her dearly, she is a shih tzu, 6 years old,. way to young for this to happen.

DIY Fido's Boo-Boo Balm (FOR DOGS ONLY)
Don't have all the essential oils called for in this recipe? This salve is safe to use on cats if the essential oils are omitted!
I actually use this salve as well, it seems to help with pain that I suffer from as well.

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup Magic Healing Herbal Infused Oil (or simply use unrefined coconut oil)
1/4 cup unrefined shea butter
1/4 cup beeswax pastilles
5 drops MRH palmarosa essential oil or PT palmarosa eo
8 drops MRH lavender essential oil or PT lavender eo
2 drops MRH Roman chamomile essential oil or PT Roman chamomile eo
5 drops MRH geranium essential oil or PT geranium eo
DIRECTIONS
In a double boiler (or your pyrex measuring cup in a pan with about an inch of water in it) melt the Magic Healing Herbal Infused Oil, beeswax, and shea butter together.
Once completely melted, remove from heat and add the essential oil blend. Stir until completely combined.
Pour into (4) 2 oz. metal tins to share or take on the go. Pour into (1) 8 oz. mason jar container to use all for yourself.
If stored in a cool dark location, this salve will keep for 9 months to a year.
TO USE
Apply to CLEAN wounds, cuts, dry skin/paw pads, hot spots, bites/stings, rashes, burns, and more. If your dog is prone to licking wounds, you might want to put the cone of shame on them for serious wounds, to help them heal faster. This salve is safe to be licked in small amounts.
****
A natural antibacterial owie cream just for dogs
When dogs get hurt, just like humans, they need proper cleaning and wound care to keep the wound free from infection. Many vets would simply hand you an antibacterial cream to apply to the wound, much like that of Neosporin, but I am always trying to avoid the use of products containing antibiotics in them, so I created a natural antibacterial owie cream just for dogs! I call it my Fido's Boo-Boo Balm! The great things about this salve, for dogs, is that it is so universal that you can use it for all sorts of issues, including:

cuts/scrapes/open wounds
bites/stings
dry skin
dry/cracked paw pads
rashes
hot spots
burns
fungal infections

Using a cricut to make Canister Labels

Well I finally sat down and created some new labels for my Canisters and I will show you how easy it is to make.
These are pretty and handy and my canisters didn't cost much either and are very air tight, I love them better than high dollar ones that I have had and got rid of because the lids weren't secure or handy when using. After break one of my favorite sets I decided to use these for real life and I'm so glad I found them. So I just got byou usy and personalized them up and I really like them in my pantry.

Here is what you will need:
Set of Canisters-you can put vinyl on anything so be my guest and use what you like.
Some permanent or removable vinyl-I used permanent on these but you can use either, removable is nice if you plan to change them.
A Cricut or other cutting machine-I have a Maker and an Expression and both work great.
Scissors-for trimming vinyl before attaching to canisters
Wooden spoon or cricut tools-I have both but as you will see today I used a wooden spoon from my kitchen.
Clear contact paper from dollar store or walmart-to stick your vinyl on to apply to canisters, keep things in place and straight.
Wipes-to clean canisters before applying vinyl

How to make the labels
First you will need to set up your cutting machine to cut out all the labels, this took me awhile to decide on the font I wanted to use. You can make them script or standard font set, go from a Rae Dun if you like that to a fancy script. I'm in between and picked a large easy to read bold font for this.
Set up all the names of what is in your canisters-I have a lot of canisters so this took awhile to set up but they will make my canisters all match and easy to find what I need.
After cutting all the words for labels cut them apart word for word, I cut mine in exact word form so they wouldn't cut in letter order only, remember to weld the words to make that easy, or you will have a big mess of just letters and arranging them in word order will take forever and difficult to keep in straight lines for placement.

Nest time to clean canisters-either wash them if they are new, or clean off the sides and top of each canister and let dry.

Next cut a sheet of the clear contact paper big enough for the biggest word you have for your canisters. Then I always take my piece of contact paper and stick it to a smooth clean kitchen towel, not terry or a t-shirt will work too, even jeans, to take off some of the extra sticky on the contact paper so the words don't stick too well, this makes it easier to transfer from the sheet to the canister or any item you want to put the words on.
Now it's time to get each word ready to apply to canister, lay each word on your sheet of clear contact paper rub the word onto the clear contact paper firmly, I use a wooden spoon for this. You will peel off the backing paper from the word at a 90 degree angle, this takes a little time to get it down working right so be patient and if you don't get it just keep working at it, go slow, peeling slow, if the letters still want to stick to the vinyl sheet you can carefully with tweezers or a fingernail and press it down to the clear sheet to help it peel.

Now you're going to want to line the contact paper up to where you are going to place it on the canister. Press firmly and again rub with your spoon or cricut tool to get it placed and smooth any air bubbles out and get it on firmly. Then peel off the clear contact paper slowly and again smooth by hand or tool each letter to make sure they are smooth.

There you have a new canister labeled and ready for your pantry or shelf. So pretty, make them in any color and you can get fancy with some outlines or curls if you like.

How To Restick Your Cricut Mat

Are you a cricut user? Other models perhaps? Does your mat stop holding onto what you are cutting?
Ever get a mat that grabs in some places too well, but doesn't hold in others? Like this perhaps?

A question we get a lot from crafters is how to restick a Cricut mat.

Having a super sticky mat is incredibly important in ensuring that your craft cutting machine cuts accurately and precisely, just where you need it to.

Paper stuck to this mat and made a real mess
A little water, dish soap and a spray of a cleaner and it will be good as new
with a light coat of adhesive Spray or
tack it over and over glue

And while most of the questions we get regarding cleaning and resticking cutting mats are from Cricut users, our advice can be applied to any machine that requires a cutting mat to work — such as  Silhouette.

We’ve compiled this guide to how to make a Cricut mat sticky again, with tips and tricks for cleaning and resticking.

so, there are some awesome shortcut products for this that we think you’ll want to buy!

So please follow along:

Why You Need to Restick Your Cricut Cutting Mat
A Note on Resticking and Your Warranty

When you buy your Cricut or Silhouette cutting machine, a cutting mat will usually be included with your purchase.

These mats are usually made from rubber and are very tacky to the touch, allowing you to stick your paper, vinyl — or whatever material you’re using — to the mat, allowing it to slide evenly through your machine and to be kept intact and in place during the cutting process.

Cutting mats are essential when you’re cutting most types of material

But over time, and with plenty of use, your Cricut cutting mat will start to lose some of its stickiness. It will probably suffer from material build-up and its adhesive quality will start to disappear over time.

This will start to interfere with the integrity of your cutting — leading to a lack of accuracy and your material falling apart in the machine once its cut.

Making using these machines not very fun or workable.

So, how do you fix this?

Well, you can buy another mat but that can be expensive — if you’re doing a lot of cutting, you’ll be going through your mats too quickly.

Or, you can do what all us craft cutting geeks like to do — rejuvenate your mat by cleaning and resticking it.

It should be as good as new and last you a very lengthy time period.

Here’s how…

How to Clean Cricut Mat
The first thing you need to do once you realise that your cutting mat is losing its stickiness is to clean it.

There are 3 ways you can do this, each one more effective than the last:

Baby Wipes
If your Cricut mat is just a little dirty, it might be best to start with a baby wipe, to gently wash away any material build-up that’s been gathering.

Make sure that you use alcohol and bleach free wipes — if you don’t, you might find that the wipes permanently destroy any hope of making your Cricut mat sticky again.

In a similar vein, some crafters use nail polish remover to get rid of any mat residue but we think this is a little risky — we’ve ruined a mat’s stickiness before using this method.

Lint Rollers
Another handy product for a quick cutting mat clean is to use a lint roller to remove any build-up.

The stickiness of the roller may also lend your mat some extra stickiness of its own, so you could kill two birds with one stone using this method.

We’ve found that this is only helpful in very mild cases of build-up.

For particularly dirty mats, there’s only one solution…

Soapy Water and Adhesive Remover
The most effective way to clean your Cricut cutting mat is to soak it in soapy (dawn works)water for a few minutes. This should loosen most of the dirt and build-up off the mat.
Sometimes in addition to using dawn I use this cleaner, found at Dollar tree
Just remember I wouldn't soak mat more than 10 minutes in any cleaner.
find this cleaner at Dollar Tree

If there’s still stuff stuck on it after that, you may need to use a more heavy duty product that can dissolve any material bits seemingly stuck to the mat.

Adhesive removers (such as goo gone)can be applied to the mat, left to settle for around 10-20 minutes (read the instructions) and then rinsed off with a scraper, pulling the remaining build-up off with it.

As you might expect from the name, adhesive removers will also remove any remaining stickiness that your mat has left, so you’ll definitely need to restick the mat after this cleaning step.

The most well known brand of adhesive removing products is Goo Gone and it can be picked up very cheaply from Amazon or local stores.

Once you’ve cleaned your Cricut cutting mat, you may find that its original stickiness has been restored.

If not, then you need to move on to the next step…

How to Restick Cricut Mat
You’ll need another low-cost product to make your Cricut mat sticky again — adhesive spray.

This may sound counter intuitive after using an adhesive remover in the above step, but we promise that it’s all necessary if you want to get the job done properly.

Before using your sticky spray, you’ll need to tape up around the edges of the cutting mat. This is so that you don’t get any of the spray anywhere but the body of the mat.

If the edges of the mat are made to become sticky, you can be sure that they’ll get stuck running through the rollers of your cutting machine, and won’t be able to work properly.

Make sure that you use enough masking tape so that there’s no chance of the edges become sticky.

Now it’s time to give it a spray!

Sticky Spray to Restick Cricut Mat
Unlike adhesive removers, there are huge numbers of sticky sprays on the market that will be suitable for resticking your cutting mat.
there are many brands and types
I use this one but lightly spray

Not all of them were created equal, however, so we’ve picked out ones that we’ve used and can recommend, as well as a few that our crafting peers like as well, but honestly you will just have to try some as you find them available, often some have been out of stock or difficult to find when we needed them.

They can all be bought off Amazon, Walmarts, local craft stores, all different brands and are all low in price — and, of course, can be used over and over again, as and when your cutting mat needs it.

Your Warranty

It’s always worth reading your warranty carefully when you buy your Cricut or Silhouette machine. It may mention that your warranty will be voided if you manually restick your mat so make sure you’re clear on their rules before you start with the DIY!
